Toyger — a breed of short-haired domestic cats, reminiscent of toy tigers. It was bred in the USA in the late 1980s. In 1993, TICA was recognized as «for registration», in 2000 it received the status of a new breed, and in 2007 — full exhibition rights.

History of the Origins of the Toyger
The author of breed Judy Sugden lived in Los Angeles and since the childhood had the relation to cultivation of cats: its mother Gene Mill — the founder of the well-known Bengal breed of domestic cats.

In the late 1980s, Sagden began breeding breeds of tabby cats similar to a miniature tiger: a long low body, bright shiny fur, clear stripes and circular marks on the head (which in domestic cats do not exist), as well as a calm character, a popular domestic breed. The genes of the home tabby cat and Bengal cat were the basis of the breed. Later Сагден has brought in the nursery and the street cat picked up in Kashmir and possessing stripes on ears.

In 1993, The International Cat Association (TICA), a member of the World Felinological Congress (WCC), began to register the breed. In 2000, the toger was included in the exhibition list of «new breeds», and in February 2007 became a full-fledged champion breed. Other organizations — members of WCC togers have not yet recognized.

The breed standard describes the color of the cat as a distinct dark stripes on a brown background on the back, abdomen, chest, legs and tail. Strips on the body must be vertical, longitudinal strips are prohibited. The fur should be plush, the tanks on the sides of the muzzle are desirable. Ears are preferred rounded, eyes small and slightly covered overhanging eyelids.
