Hybrid cats – these are breeds of cats that were born through the crossing of different species. Hybrid cats were presented at the exhibition in 1875 in the category «Wild cats and Hybrids of wild cats with domestic». Naturally, hybrid cats «man-made» differ from natural hybrids.
Natural hybrids are formed when domestic cats are crossed with wild cats without human intervention and control. Purposeful breeding of hybrid breeds, on the contrary, takes place under the complete control of people, often to achieve a specific goal.
There are three categories of hybrid cat breeds:
- Wild and domestic cat hybrids
- Domestic cat hybrids
- Wild cat hybrids
